In October 1994, five formerly regionally active pharmaceutical wholesalers in Germany merged into
PHOENIX Pharmahandel GmbH & Co KG. The existing 18 branches were restructured over the subsequent years and continuously upgraded to the latest technological standards; we also added two sites and one pre-wholesale location. With currently
21 distribution centers, PHOENIX is also close to its customers throughout Germany. Our head office is located in Mannheim.
In 2009, wholesaling was explicitly included in the public mandate for the provision of pharmaceuticals, creating a legal basis for our important contribution in this area. As a full-range pharma wholesaling company, PHOENIX in Germany carries a range of more than 100,000 items from the various pharmaceutical manufacturers. More than half of the public pharmacies in Germany are customers of PHOENIX. We deliver drugs and other health products up to five times per day – for the benefit of the pharmacies and for the patients and consumers in Germany. Our sophisticated warehouse, logistics, and transport system makes this possible.
Besides our core business – supplying pharmacies across the country quickly and reliably – PHOENIX in Germany offers numerous additional products and services relating to health. These include goods management and point-of-sale systems for pharmacies, transport and special logistics services, provision of individually packed medicines, a diverse continuing education and training programme, and advisory services. The diverse range of products and services provided by the German
subsidiaries of PHOENIX expands the Company's sphere of activity considerably.
More than 4,000 employees work at PHOENIX in Germany to ensure that patients everywhere can be supplied with drugs at any time. PHOENIX Pharmahandel GmbH & Co KG runs the operational wholesale business in Germany and is also the Group holding company for all national and international activities of the PHOENIX group.
The branches of PHOENIX Pharmahandel GmbH & Co KG are certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001:2008. This documents the fact that we are implementing the legislative rules, standards, and internal regulations appropriately and are continually making quality improvements.
