Brocacef Groep NV, a joint venture of the PHOENIX group and Celesio AG, has received approval from the Dutch Authority for Consumers & Markets (ACM) to acquire Mediq Apotheken Nederland BV. In addition to pharmacies and the pharmaceutical wholesale business, the acquisition also includes pre-wholesale activities. As a result, Brocacef will gain a leading market position and will be able to offer more comprehensive services along the pharmaceutical supply chain in the Netherlands.
The new combined company has a leading market position in the pharmaceutical care industry with EUR 2 billion in revenue, a nationwide network of pharmacies, around 5,000 employees, and a complete range of pharmaceutical products and services. With the approval from ACM, the Brocacef Group can initiate the integration of the company.
ACM has conditionally approved the acquisition. After the acquisition, about 500 BENU and Mediq pharmacies including owner-managed pharmacies, franchisees, and partners, will be connected to Brocacef. In the coming months, the Mediq pharmacies will be rebranded to BENU Apotheek, the brand name of Brocacef’s pharmacy retail brand. Services for business-to-business customers will be continued under the Brocacef brand name.
