PHOENIX expands market position in Montenegro

The PHOENIX group strengthens its presence in the Balkan markets. The European pharmaceutical trader has acquired the pharmaceutical wholesaler Farmegra d.o.o. and the national pharmacy chain Apoteka Lijek PZU in Montenegro as of October 25, 2016. The antitrust authorities had approved the transaction.

"With these acquisitions, the PHOENIX group expands its geographical market position in South-Eastern Europe as an integrated healthcare provider”, states Oliver Windholz, Chief Executive Officer of the PHOENIX group. For several years now, the PHOENIX group is providing pre-wholesale services for the pharmaceutical industry in Montenegro via its subsidiary Evropa Lek d.o.o.

Farmegra is a leading pharmaceutical wholesaler in Montenegro since 1998. Based in Podgorica, the company employs around 100 people and services approximately 180 pharmacies in the country. Farmegra also provides a wide range of pharma services to pharmaceutical clients. Apoteka Lijek PZU is the largest private pharmacy chain in Montenegro with a network of 37 pharmacies nationwide. The 150 employees offer high quality patient services and reliable supply of medicines.

The PHOENIX group holds a leading market position in South-Eastern European countries like Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Albania and Kosovo. Since 2005, the company has been present in the Balkans gaining a significant market share in pharmaceutical wholesale business and setting up a network of 150 wholly owned pharmacies with a total of more than 2,000 employees.
